27-28 JUNE 2015  – 1° APPOINTMENT WITH THE ENDURANCE STAGES ON THE RACE TRACK OF THE TOR DES GEANTS, DONNAS-GRESSONEY 53km 4.310 MT D +.

The 1st of the 5 planned appointments with the Endurance Stages of  the Tor des Geants took place the last weekend of June, from the Life Base of Donnas to the Life Base of Gressoney. It is a challenging section of the Tor des Geants, characterized by an endless ascent to Ref. Coda of 1,900 mt + D to deal with when almost half of the way is done. The trail track continues with the technical descent to Lake Vagno (Refreshment point. During the stage the Jeep TRM was waiting for us!), a new climb to Peak Marmontana and then to Peak della Vecchia – other 1,500 mt of D + – followed by a 5km descent to Niel that can be difficult in case of rain. From Niel, another strategic refreshment point before, you face the last climb of this stage to Peak Lazoney before starting the descent on meadows (Here whoever makes it should run!) towards Loo (Refreshment point) and the Life Base of Gressoney St-Jean at the Sport Center.

During the stage the TRM Coaches explained to the participants the strategies to better face this section of the Tor des Geants, in particular the ascent and descent techniques on a stony and / or slippery mud ground and the thermoregulation management (Temperatures in the area of Donnas can be very high and slower trail runner may find themselves in this section of the race during the hottest hours of the day).

The Stage was also an opportunity for many to throw an eye to the beauty of the Fort of Bard and the Devil’s Bridge that we crossed during training.
