TRAINING AND NUTRITION OF TRM ATHLETES DURING THE CORONAVIRUS

The training and nutrition of the athletes also during Coronavirus must follow a specific plan that will allow them to return to the best condition in a faster time, when the emergency is over.

In this period of “forced lockdown” during which the World has, responsibly, stopped for Coronavirus, the TRM Coaches and Nutritionists have modified all TRM athlete’s training plans and diets to keep them active, not only the Elite Team, so that they can overcome this particular moment while maintaining the best possible level of fitness: coordination and condition, muscle tone, an efficient metabolism, body weight and so on.

This strategy is necessary to guarantee an immediate restart after the lockdown, but also for other reasons related to the “physical” condition that always apply. Let’s analyze some of them together:

  1. a trail running athlete, accustomed to training more than 4 times a week (more than 7 for the Elite) after a stop of more than a month would need well over 2 months to regain a shape and physical efficiency acquired before stopping
  2. the athletes who intend to run a race over 100Km, in Summer, need “time to progress in the preparation”. A stop of 1-3 months would force them to try to shorten the period required to regain shape with a very high risk of injuries
  3. the partial or total sedentary lifestyle of an athlete contributes to an increase in weight with the related implications both in terms of athletic performance and general health

So what should you to do?

The TRM Team of experts quickly developed ad hoc programs for each athlete, after a massive survey of what they had available at home and the environments in which they were forced to stay: stairs, treadmills, rollers, stationary bikes, private outdoor areas (garden, garage). In less than 10 days, “endurance planswere drawn up combined with cardiovascular and strengthening exercises for everyone.

In this way, each athlete can maintain his level of athletic training and will be able to restart quickly as soon as the emergency is over. At the same time, TRM nutritionists revised their nutrition plans, adjusting the calorie intake and the micronutrients according to the modified consumption.

There’s also one aspect that is definitely improving for everyone: mental strength training. In fact, grinding kilometers on the stairs of your home, on 10-meter ramps of your garage, cycling on an exercise bike or inside a sauna, are not experiences for everyone! But aren’t adaptability and tenacity two fundamental aspects required to an Ultra Trailer? Happy training to everyone.
